Aucklanders rated reasonably well in the Reader’s Digest “Global Courtesy Test”.
The test used undercover reporters to assess 2,000 people in 35 different countries and looked at behaviour under three circumstances:

  • whether people help someone to pick up papers dropped in the street
  • whether shop workers say “thank you” after making a sale
  • whether locals hold a door open to people following behind

Worldwide, people under 40 turned out to be most polite, while over 60s were the least polite.
