Unemployment in New Zealand rose by 4,000 over the latest quarter, driven by an increase in male unemployment.

Figures from Statistics New Zealand show that the unemployment rate was 3.8 percent in the September quarter, up from 3.6 percent in the previous quarter.

Unemployment rates by ethnic group were:

  • European: 2.7 %
  • Māori 7.6 %
  • Pacific Peoples 5.1 %
  • Other 5.8 %
