Travellers flying to and from New Zealand with Emirates can now enjoy increased baggage allowances for flights across the airline’s network of more than 100 destinations globally.

The new allowances, for adults and children over two years old, will be 30 kg for Economy Class passengers, 40 kg for Business and 50 kg for First.

The previous economy class allowance for many destinations was restricted to 20 kg.

Passengers in any class of service travelling to or from the USA, Canada or Brazil, who are travelling with infants, are entitled to an additional baggage allowance of one (1) piece of checked baggage, weighing 23 kg or less. For all other destinations, passengers with infants may check in an additional 10 kg of baggage.

In addition to the check-in baggage, First / Business Class travellers may carry two pieces of carry-on baggage: one briefcase plus either one handbag or one garment bag. The briefcase may not exceed 18 x 14 x 8 inches; the handbag may not exceed 22 x 15 x 8 inches (55 x 38 x 20 cm); the garment bag can be no more than 8 inches (20 cm) thick when folded. The total combined weight of both pieces may not be more than 12 kg.

Economy Class travellers may carry one piece of carry-on baggage that may not exceed 22 x 15 x 8 inches (55 x 38 x 20 cm) and must weigh no more than 15 lbs (7 kg).

Emirates flies wide-bodied jets, including the new A380 superjumbo, four times daily from New Zealand to Dubai and beyond via Australia.

Emirates spokesperson Nabil Sultan said allowances were being increased as part of the airline’s commitment to putting their customers first.

“By offering travellers the flexibility to carry significantly more baggage we will be allowing them to take more gifts for family and friends.”

Gold and Silver Members of Skywards, Emirates frequent flyer programme, are entitled to an additional baggage allowance of 16 kg over their ticketed allowance for Gold members and additional 12 kg for Silver.

Codeshare passengers travelling on Emirates operated flights are also eligible for the revised free baggage allowances.

Emirates’ regular rates will be applied to baggage in excess of these new allowances.
