A Victoria University of Wellington researcher is examining the experiences of British people who are considering leaving the United Kingdom or are in the process of migrating to another country.
People who are residing in the United Kingdom are needed, even if undecided on whether or not to migrate (to New Zealand or another country).
The online survey asks about reasons for wanting to leave the UK, steps toward migration, as well as the emotions and feelings that a major move brings out.
Those who have been through the period leading up to an international move know that it can be a very challenging but also very exciting time, however there has been little research on migrants before they depart their country of origin.
The largest group of migrants to New Zealand come from the UK, however few studies have looked at their experiences.
The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of the psychological process that people go through before they leave their country of origin.
The questions in the study focus on stress, wellbeing, methods of coping, social support and values.
Previous research has found online forums (such as the ENZ forum), in addition to family and friends, to be a useful source of support for people going through stressful periods of their life.
At the completion of this study, a short report of the findings will be posted here.
